Week 1 Video Research with Annotation

This week in our own time Jess and I began researching some examples and ideas of where we might like to head with our video.

Ruth:

TurboTax commercial..........
I loved the use of pace and tone in the TurboTax add to entice the viewer and using the 'fear' that some people have towards doing their taxes and turning this into a visual parody of relatable childhood fears. We took some notes of how we could apply this styling into our own videos in the screenshot below: (using the fern product idea.)

This TurboTax add gave me the idea to perhaps try incorporate animation in our video? If we chose the fern idea then this could be a new avenue to explore in that we could create a 'cute' relatable fern character which we could use to win our audience over. (We love how in the 'cute' Lucas the spider video below, the characters voice is used in conjunction with visual animation style to completely change how the audience sees a normally unemotive or in this case scary character.)
Cute style voiceover like this but super simple 2d animation like simple blinking and 'arms/fern branches' waving around a little? I could just avoid having a mouth so we don't have to match up voice with it. But we'll need to find a lil kid or someone who can sound young and cute to voice it.
Jess and I both have some minor animation experience though due to time restraints if we were to pursue this idea we would only be able to create basic 2D animations, examples of this and how we could approach working this into our live action footage are below.

So moving on from the fern idea and exploring the dating app idea...
I collected a bunch of comedic dating app videos which are great examples of style and feel that a traditional video on this subject follows, we could either replicate this or completely turn it on its head for a dramatic approach?

This video (Below) is my favourite by far and after showing it to Jess we've decided to analyse this and use it to present in class on Friday. (Notes in screenshot below of points they use that we like) I like how this style and approach is completely replicable for us as inexperienced students. Their use of humour is on point and these sort of jokes are the type we intend to style ours like in our own videos.

Jess:

10 best Super Bowl adds.......
I really like the Tide add style, a parody of popular old spice commercials with the same actor, we liked how it kept the attention of the viewer using humour. We want to try use this voiceover/ monologue style in our video.

Some examples of kickstarter videos:
